In Year 6 the children continue the Accelerated Reader scheme. This is a reading management and monitor programme designed to foster independent reading.
The children complete a star reading test that gives the children a ZPD range. This is the level or 'band' of books that a child can choose from. Once they have a book they need to read it, and then once complete, the children will attempt a quiz to test their understanding of the text. The school expects children to achieve at least 80% on each test before they move onto a new text. If a child does not achieve this, they will keep the book and be asked to re-read it before attempting the test again.
The aim of this is to ensure that the children are understanding what they are reading, developing their comprehension and inference skills.
