HOMEWORK

Homework will be sent home each Friday to be returned the following Friday.

Homework is an important part of a child's learning. It helps to consolidate what is being taught and promotes independence and organisation. We appreciate your support in ensuring your child's homework tasks are completed.

Spelling: Parents should make sure they check their child's book bag for weekly spellings. These will be tested each Friday. Any questions please ask your child's class teacher. Children should access Spelling Shed to support their learning.

Maths:  Regular practicing of times tables, including through Times Table Rockstars, and number bonds on Hit The Button.

Colorful Book Spines

Reading: We are keen to encourage children to continue their love of reading and we focus on improving their fluency in reading throughout Year 2. Please read at least three times per week at home and log this on the Boom Reader app. Reading at home will be checked every Monday and reading books will be changed each Friday. Reading books must be in school every day.

Reading books must be read twice before they will be changed as children must be able to read them fluently and also be able to talk about what they have read.

Phonics: Parents should support their children to use their phonics knowledge when reading and practise reading the sounds daily using the phonics mat below.

MATHS BLAST

In addition to the daily maths lessons, children also complete a daily maths blast. KIRFS (key instant recall facts) such as multiplication tables and addition facts are learnt to automaticity to avoid cognitive overload in the working memory and enable pupils to focus on new concepts. The KIRFS documents provide an overview of each focus, and contain ideas about how parents can support their children with this at home.
